South Carolina Equality Coalition was established in 2002 as a statewide non-partisan coalition of local and state social, religious and political GLBT organizations and allies with a mission to secure civil and human rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender South Carolinians. Both South Carolina Equality, Inc., a 501(c)3 charitable and educational organization, and South Carolina Equality Coalition, Inc., a 501 (c)4 political organization focused on advocacy and legislation, were chartered. While originally organized as a coalition of GLBT and progressive organizations, both the (c)3 and (c)4 organizations of South Carolina Equality now provide leadership as independent educational and political advocacy organizations, respectively, working for GLBT inclusive policies at the local and state levels. In 2012, SC Equality PAC was established to elect fair minded candidates to state and local office in South Carolina regardless of party affiliation.
