The Young Communist League (YCL) is a youth-led organization that seeks to activate and mobilize youth and students in the struggle for democracy, justice and human rights.Now more than ever, as capitalism reaches its limits and the entire survival of humanity is put at stake, it is critical that young people be activated and mobilized in the fight for their right to have an equal say on how their society is being run and how they want humanity to develop going forward. This right can only be secured through abolishing the private ownership of the means of production and establishing democratic control over them. Once this is established, society will be free to develop in accordance with its own democratic consensus and communism will blossom in the sun of freedom.We encourage everyone to read the scientific theory of socialism as elaborated by Marx, Lenin, and many others, and to take an active role in organizing movements for social change. The YCL is a socialist youth organization in Houston. We work alongside the Houston Communist Party and are based at the University of Houston. The Young Communist League (YCL) is a youth-led organization that seeks to activate and mobilize youth and students in the struggle for democracy, justice and human rights. We live in an historical moment of transition from capitalism to socialism, and the conflict between the past and the communist future is what underlies all political struggle in the present. Socialism will advance the struggle that brought capitalism into existence and will bring about its natural conclusion: communism. The American War for Independence was a revolutionary transition from the dominance of feudalism to capitalism, as was the Civil War a revolutionary transition from slavery to capitalism. The revolution our generation must lead will be a transition from capitalism to socialism. Advancing the revolution that abolished private ownership of the state and of labor, our generation is tasked with abolishing private ownership of the means of production. In the present period of late capitalism, the decaying power structure sees its profits continue to decline, forcing it to either concede to socialism or resort to fascism. It is important at this moment that working people be organized and be made ever more conscious of the class nature of the political struggle. Militant resistance to fascism and advocacy for democracy and socialism is a vital part of forming the real basis for socialism to be advanced into the ruling mode of production. Historically, youth and students have played a critical role in this struggle. Young people have the most to gain and the least to lose in this fight. Public universities and college campuses have long been centers of socialist organizing and anti-fascist resistance. The YCL bases itself on college campuses, here in Houston headquartered at the University of Houston main campus. Now more than ever, as capitalism reaches its limits and the entire survival of humanity is put at stake, it is critical that young people be activated and mobilized in the fight for their right to have an equal say on how their society is being run and how they want humanity to develop going forward. This right can only be secured through abolishing the private ownership of the means of production and establishing democratic control over them. Once this is established, society will be free to develop in accordance with its own democratic consensus and technology will no longer be constrained by market forces, leading to maximally automated production and the development of material conditions which will enable the realization of communism. We encourage everyone to study scientific socialism as elaborated by Marx, Lenin, and many others, and to put it into practice by taking an active role in organizing movements for social change.
