Sunrise is a movement of young people uniting to stop the climate crisis and create millions of good-paying jobs in the process. We will make climate change an urgent priority across America and elect leaders who stand up for the wellbeing of all people. Sunrise is building a mass movement of young people to stop climate change and create millions of good-paying jobs in the process. We unite to make climate change an urgent priority across America, end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives on our politics, and elect leaders who stand up for the health and wellbeing of all people. We will make 2018 the year when climate change finally matters in our elections. We see ourselves as part of the political revolution. Across the country, a surge of teens and twenty-somethings are getting politically involved for the first time. We don’t see a reason to choose between working on elections and creative protest—it’s obvious that both are needed. And we’re unafraid to take on entrenched elites from any political party. Here's the plan. It only works if you get involved: JUNE 2017 - APRIL 2018 We’ll plan creative and disruptive actions to: (1) highlight climate impacts already being felt across the U.S. (2) call out fossil fuel CEOs and politicians who are deliberately fueling this crisis, and (3) spread the word about Sunrise and recruit for the nonviolent army (see step two!) MAY - NOVEMBER 2018 Our nonviolent army of 100+ young people will go all-in as volunteer organizers for the 2018 midterm election. We’ll focus in ten politically significant states, where we’ll continue the creative actions from step one, demand that all candidates refuse fossil fuel money, and get behind candidates with a conscience and a spine. We may even run some candidates of our own! We’re still working out the finer points. Sign up to host or attend a movement training this summer, where we’ll unveil the full strategy. (Oh, and we have a plan for beyond 2018 as well—but first things first.) We call ourselves Sunrise because we know this dark time in America will come to an end. The sun will rise again. We are rising out of darkness to illuminate the truth and expose injustice. We know that when enough people see the light, the fossil fuel billionaires and bought out politicians can no longer hide in the shadows, and eventually — we will win. If we call out the fossil fuel billionaires running our democracy and build a genuinely populist movement to throw their corporate lackeys out of office, then we could be less than four years away from having a government of the people and a movement strong enough to pass our agenda.
