Social Justice Education - SJ Ed - IUPUI This page is managed by the Social Justice Education Scholars Celebrate diversity and cultural enrichment at IUPUI! Social Justice Education has a variety of programs, events, and resources aimed to educate you about diversity, multiculturalism, and social justice on our campus and in our world today. Our goals: -Establish a common ground among the IUPUI community that focuses on inclusive language, self exploration, and building community. -Create opportunities for dialogue across differences among and between the various social identity affinity groups that exist here. -Create opportunities to further the conversation from commonalities and differences to power, privilege, and oppression in order to engage our community to work towards social justice to strive for equity at IUPUI among community members. Our programs: Indy Immersion: An immersion trip over fall break that highlights invisible stories of marginalized communities at IUPUI and surrounding neighborhoods. Tunnel of Oppression: An interactive production in partnership with Housing & Residence Life that highlights current social justice issues and systems of oppression. Symposium: A day long conference in the Spring for faculty, staff and students to exchange knowledge about social justice issues through workshops, speakers, and dialogues. Democracy Plaza: Weekly discussion boards under the SPEA breezeway and in the Campus Center where weekly questions are put up to engage the IUPUI community in current issues. Pass the Mic: Biweekly discussion forums led by scholars to create space for the IUPUI community to process current social issues. Shop Talk: Peer facilitated intimate dialogues focused on a variety of social justice topics. SpeakOUT Cafe: Biweekly artistic programming that creates space for students to voice their narratives through poetry, painting and spoken word. Hash It Out: A biweekly student-led podcast bringing people from opposing views together to discuss current issues.
