Our chapter welcomes new members to help fight for women's rights on the local and national level. Greater Portland NOW is a chapt. of Oregon NOW. It's an intersectional org. for equality for all. Check out how we make it happen - greaterportlandnow.com Greater Portland NOW is the local chapter of Oregon National Organization for Women and The National Organization for Women, serving residents of the Greater Portland area, including Portland, Gresham, Clackamas, Milwaukie, Tigard, Hillsdale, Beaverton, Hillsboro, Aloha and other nearby communities. The National Organization for Women (NOW) is the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States. NOW has 500,000 contributing members and 550 chapters in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Since its founding in 1966, NOW's goal has been to take action to bring about equality for all women. NOW works to eliminate discrimination and harassment in the workplace, schools, the justice system, and all other sectors of society; secure abortion, birth control, and reproductive rights for all women; and end all forms of violence against women; eradicate racism, sexism, and homophobia; and promote equality and justice in our society. As a chapter of NOW, Greater Portland NOW acts to advance this mission in our area, with a special focus on (in no particular order, they are all so important to us): - Equality and rights. - Children and youth. - Inclusion of all feminists and allies. - Intersections with other forms of marginalization, including race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, economics, and homelessness. - Fighting harmful attitudes toward gender and sexuality that hurt all people and society as a whole. - Assisting members and families experiencing that harm. - Partnering with and supporting local businesses and non-profits who share our goals and serve our members.
