NOW chapters focus on six priority issues including reproductive rights, ending sex discrimination/constitutional equality, promoting diversity and ending racism, economic justice, stopping violence against women, and LGBTQIA rights. Our chapter welcomes new members to help fight for women's rights on the local and national level. Join the Greater Cleveland Chapter of the National Organization for Women The Cleveland Chapter of NOW was founded in 1969 and currently has 135 active members on its roster. By bringing the fight for women’s rights to the local level, we can empower and educate Ohio’s women to stand up for themselves, let their voices be heard and fight discrimination at a local, national and international level. Cleveland NOW is the Cleveland Chapter of the National Organization for Women. We work directly with the National and State Organizations to fight for women’s rights and promote equality on all fronts with men and we are part of the largest, most comprehensive feminist advocacy group in the United States. The overall purpose of NOW is “to take action to bring women into full participation in society — sharing equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities with men, while living free from discrimination.” Our focus is on making broad legal, political, social and economic change in order to eliminate sexism in our society. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to provide individuals with specific legal advice or counseling services, nor do we have a library or research department to assist individuals with projects. We can refer you to other organizations that may be able to provide these services, though. You will need to provide an e-mail address. The National Organization for Women (NOW) is the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States. NOW has 500,000 contributing members and 550 chapters in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Since its founding in 1966, NOW's goal has been to take action to bring about equality for all women. NOW works to eliminate discrimination and harassment in the workplace, schools, the justice system, and all other sectors of society; secure abortion, birth control and reproductive rights for all women; end all forms of violence against women; eradicate racism, sexism and homophobia; and promote equality and justice in our society.
