We champion policies and programs that lift children out of poverty; protect them from abuse and neglect; and ensure their access to health care, quality education and a moral and spiritual foundation. CDF encourages investment in prevention and early intervention before children get sick, into trouble, drop-out of school, or suffer family financial breakdown. CDF advocates nationwide and at state and local levels on behalf of children to ensure that children are always a priority. In 1999, CDF-Texas began with a primary focus on child health to address our state's highest-in-the-nation rate of uninsured children. A leader not only in statewide policy advances for children's health coverage, in 2003 CDF-Texas also helped to establish the Texas Early Childhood Education Coalition. The Children's Defense Fund Leave No Child Behind® mission is to ensure every child a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a Safe Start and a Moral Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities.
