Based in Western North Carolina, the Campaign for Southern Equality promotes full LGBTQ equality - both legal and lived - across the South. At the Campaign for Southern Equality, we’re working to build a South where LGBTQ people are equal in every sphere of life. More than one third of all LGBTQ Americans live in the South. But our community lacks basic legal protections, faces political attacks, and experiences health and income inequities. LGBTQ Southerners also live each day with courage and strength and are doing heroic work to promote equality in their hometowns. And every day, we hear powerful stories about how the South is changing. All of this is true at once. Through our Legal Equality Project, the Campaign for Southern Equality works across the South to strike down anti-LGBTQ laws, promote pro-LGBTQ policies, and promote policies that support racial equity, economic justice and immigration reform. In our current political climate, we’re part of rapid response organizing coalitions working on issues of LGBTQ rights, racial equity, immigration reform and health care access for all. We’re working to build political power over the long term. We use tactics including litigation, organizing, voter registration and turnout, and storytelling.
