Advancing Constitutional Citizenship Education in Mississippi and the United States CONTENT DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS * STAKEHOLDERS CONFERENCESRATIONALE:Incidents of violence, disruption, disrespect, bullying, and verbal and physical intimidation often occur in our schools and our society, posing significant challenges for a fair and just society. Significant voids exist in citizenship education, especially relative to young people, in the United States. Searches of popular data reflects little citizenship relevant content other than as related to immigrant citizenship education. There's little likelihood that our schools will make significant progress in citizenship education given current financial and testing constraints. Although several organizations and websites operate in the area of the U.S. Constitution and citizenship, they are not focused to younger people in a demographically relevant and attractive way.Advancing a fair and just society in Mississippi and the United States should depend upon understanding, applying, and enforcing fundamentals of constitutional citizenship; not individual opinions, personalities, preferences, and dislikes. These fundamentals include our citizenship rights, but also our citizenship roles and responsibilities.Effective citizenship education and awareness should help improve our ability to exchange ideas and make good decisions and improve government of society. [Review of the Effects of Citizenship Education; Educational Research Review, p 170; 2013]. Also, as stated by James Madison:
"A popular Government, without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or, perhaps both."ACTIVITIESAdvancing Constitutional Citizenship Education in Mississippi and the United States addresses this lack of demographically relevant and attractive citizenship education content through Content Development Workshops and Stakeholders Conferences.

Through our compelling multimedia journalism, we build broad-based understanding and urgency on land use issues causing a groundswell of people to take action for systemic change. We are a diverse coalition of D.C. area organizers and residents coming together in solidarity with Standing Rock. We call on D.C. to divest from Wells Fargo and other banks funding the unjust Dakota Access Pipeline, as Seattle, San Francisco, Davis, and other cities have already done. We are connecting the dots between DAPL and injustices right here in D.C., and fighting for change. D.C. must invest not in human rights abuses and environmental destruction, but in the economic and social prospects and self-determination of its own neighborhoods.

An effort to organize beyond sanctuary cities to "redefine what safety and freedom truly means for our communities." Freedom Cities demand that our communities have the resources they need to thrive. It’s about making entire cities, towns, and communities safe for immigrants, Black people, Muslims, workers and all oppressed communities. We believe we all deserve to live with dignity and have the opportunity thrive without fear of physical or economic violence at the hands of the corporations, vigilantes or government.

Freedom Cities is a comprehensive framework that includes many of the demands that we’ve seen come out of our campaigns over the last decade including sanctuary, investments in humanity and our planet, safety beyond policing, real community control, worker rights, community defense, and divestment from militarization and other programs that oppress our people.
