After seeing the injustices of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd, people who never knew each other prior went to the streets of Wilmington, NC and made their voice heard. As the protests slowed down, we realized we needed more tangible change in this city, which was tainted by the affects of the Wilmington Coup of 1898; a massacre of hundreds of black citizens led by white supremacists. So we founded liberateILM, a protest and activist group that fought for every disenfranchised and oppressed group. From that we started a mutual aid coalition called MACC which provided resources to whoever needed them, with a centering on the housing insecure and incarcerated peoples.
